Tart Restaurant's Thanksgiving special lasts one more day, through tomorrow, November 27. You can go there today too, if you don't have plans already.
The freebie is a wrapped sandwich (at the top) that comes with Tart's special Thanksgiving dinner. This way, you can enjoy leftovers at home, even though you ate out. Isn't that thoughtful?
The dinner includes a main dish, sides and dessert, for $35. It's the work of executive chef Keith Shutta, who has based it on local, top quality ingredients. Here's what the plate looks like. As you can see, it's heaped with food.
This view gives a better look at the sides, which include slices of cornbread dotted with corn kernels.
Other sides are candied yams with marshmallows and toasted pecans, black eyed peas with braised rainbow chard, and a yummy cranberry sauce with black figs, orange juice, orange peel, cinnamon and allspice.
The main dish isn't roast turkey but something you might like even better, a turkey roulade composed of white meat filled with turkey meatloaf made with the dark meat. The slices are covered with gravy in the photo of the plate.
Vegetarians have an option too--savoy cabbage rolls stuffed with brown and wild rice, corn, red bell pepper, caramelized onions, zucchini and peas (above). The rolls are served over buttered peas and onions with a beurre blanc sauce.
Dessert alone is worth the trip--holiday pain perdu (French toast) made with brioche, golden raisins, dried apricots, fresh pineapple and maraschino cherries.
Located at the Farmer's Daughter Hotel, across from the Original Farmers Market, the restaurant is a homey, informal place to celebrate the holiday. If you miss Thanksgiving dinner, go there anyway--for brunch this weekend.
