Here's a dessert that's pure heaven, that is, if heaven is full of fluffy white clouds.
It's mango snow flake ice at Boiling Point, a Taiwanese soup restaurant in San Gabriel.
Those filmy white drifts are composed of ice blended with milk. The texture is as fine and soft as new fallen snow, not crunchy like most shaved ice.
The fragile structure collapses as soon as you poke it with a spoon. It's covered with fresh mangoes, cooked in a syrup with condensed milk.
Other snow flake ice flavors are taro, green tea, orange, blueberry and chocolate, but mango is the most popular.
The Boiling Point specializes in hot soups--really hot soups, brought to the table on heating units that keep them bubbling.
After that steamy dish, you'll need one of these icy desserts to recuperate.
